In an impressive display of skill and determination, Ross Branch claimed the honorable eighth place on the final stage of the race, securing an outstanding second position overall. This remarkable achievement marks a historic moment, as no Motswana rider before has reached such heights. Additionally, it is noteworthy to mention that Ross Branch now holds the esteemed title of being the top-performing African biker at this renowned event. Although fate did not smile upon him and he narrowly missed out on his first ever Dakar Rally championship, it is undeniable that his performance was nothing short of extraordinary. With a mere difference of 10 minutes and 53 seconds, he trailed behind Ricky Brabec from the USA, who emerged as the victorious champion. Adrien van Beveren also showcased his skills and claimed a well-deserved third place in this exhilarating competition.
Branch’s performance on the bike during the last two weeks was truly delightful. He managed to match his previous achievements in the Dakar Rally by securing two stage wins in this year’s event, bringing his total career stage wins to an impressive five, which stands as the highest number achieved by any local rider.
Furthermore, this remarkable achievement also marks Branch’s best-ever finish at the race, an outcome that occurred during his sixth participation. It is worth noting that Branch initially made his debut in 2019, where he finished in a respectable 13th place and even took home the esteemed Best Rookie award.
